Welcome to the Clacton and Holland Beach Hut Association web page
The Clacton and Holland Beach Hut Association looks after the interests of beach hut owners in Clacton and Holland. We hold two meetings for all members per year and the committee meets monthly to deal with ongoing issues. Membership is £20 per annum per hut. We are members of the Tendring Beach Hut Owners Forum where we meet with the Associations from other resorts in Tendring to discuss matters of common interest.

Annual General Meeting 2010
The 2010 Annual General Meeting will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday 15 May at Holland Public Hall. This will be a very important meeting as we will be discussing new security arrangements
At both last year’s AGM and end of season meeting we discussed the question of what we were getting for our money with regard to security patrols and the committee was asked to investigate the position further.
We have now done this and our conclusion is that we should do away with the security patrols as we feel they do not give value for money. It is hard to quantify how much vandalism the patrols actually stop, but we suspect very little if any. What they certainly do not do is report any damage they find, which is a crucial part of what we pay them for. In the last few years we have changed security companies twice with no better results.
In considering what to do about security there was one other factor to take into account and that was that TL Risk Solutions, who insure most members’ beach huts gave our members a 10% discount on the cost of the policy because we had these patrols. They have now said they will waive that condition In addition a new insurance company, Ryan, have offered competitive rates without that condition either.
All in all therefore it is our view that we do away with security patrols altogether. This will mean that as from 2011 we will be able to reduce the Association membership subscription from £20 to £10.
As it would be wrong for the committee to take this decision on our own we will be proposing to the Annual General Meeting that as from 1 July we terminate Tower Security’s contract to provide security patrols and we do not replace them with another company. This will be voted on by the members at the AGM.
£1 MILLION SEA DEFENCE SCHEME COMPLETED AT HOLLAND-ON-SEA
A new £1.1 million scheme to strengthen crumbling sea walls at Holland-on-Sea has been completed.
It takes the total spend on a 220 metre stretch of the coastline in the area to more than £2 million over the past 20 months in a bid to protect it from attack from waves.
Tendring District Council (TDC)’s contractors J Breheny began work in the vicinity of York Road back in September.
Now the finishing touches are being made to the 68 metre stretch of the coastline and the Lower Promenade has been reopened to pedestrians well in time for the main summer season.
The same contractors carried out a successful £1.2 million project on a 150 metre length of promenade less than a mile away in the Hazlemere Road area which began in September 2008 and was finished last year.
All the funding was provided by the Environment Agency following successful bids by TDC.
The same processes were used in both jobs and involved replacing the sea wall with a new concrete stepped defence to break down the wave action and reduce erosion.
John Ryan, Head of Technical and Procurement Services at TDC, said it was vital that the work was carried out to protect the sea wall at Holland-on-Sea.
“There has been a tremendous loss of beach material in the area over the past two years which has left our defences in serious danger of collapse in that particular location,” he said.
“We are grateful for the funding from the Environment Agency to proceed with both these schemes and the work continues with two other initiatives in the pipeline.”
These are a 400 metre length from Cliff Road to York Road and a 150 metre section at Holland Haven, next to Gunfleet Boating Club.
The contractors used the Hazlemere Road car park as their compound for both the latest schemes to be finished.
That will be totally resurfaced by the end of the week as part of the contract and will be marked out again. A section of the site will be for cars and another area for coaches during the main peak season.
A ramp which was the access for contractor’s vehicles during the projects has also been resurfaced along with the Lower Promenade itself.
Work has been undertaken at the same time to provide proper disabled access to the Flag Kiosk Café.
A number of dangerous piles which have been left in the beach from abandoned groynes have also been removed under the contract.
Ivan Henderson said,"This is another example of government funding being put to good use locally. I worked very closely with ministers regarding Holland on Sea's coastal defences while I was the local MP and have acted as a go between for TDC in recent years. This is very good news."
